Artist Bio

Sean Halloran lives and works in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. A lifelong maker of things, Sean's art-making practice has always been responsive to his environment and ranges from painting and collage to printmaking and assemblage. In recent years, he has made an intentional decision to step fully into an intuitive style of abstract expressionistic painting and explore the bare elements of mark-making, color and shape.

Sean is the current Executive Director at Barnstone Art for Kids, a local nonprofit that provides trauma-informed art programs to children in the region. When not making art with kids, or making art in his home studio, Sean spends as much time as possible with his wife Susmita, his children and family, and all the wonderful friends in his life.

Artist Statement

I am trying to create a compelling visual experience with my oil paintings and collages. I work from an initial concept and create a basic structure, spontaneously engaging in a dialogue with the materials. As shapes, lines and the palette emerge I work to bring forth an image that will provide the viewer with a feeling, a thought, or just a place to reflect. I think the resulting work reflects an optimism that we all strive to hold onto in a world that can be simultaneously frantic and messy and beautiful.
